Dropper bottles are a sturdy, easy-to-use option that can hold a variety of products — from serums to CBD to essential oils. Dropper bottles can also be used as tincture bottles for dispensing various botanical compounds. In this article, we'll explore the different dropper bottle sizes, and types, and make recommendations on the best use for each.

Essential oil bottles are designed to hold and dispense essential oils. While some essential oil bottles are made of impermeable plastic like PET, the vast majority of essential oils are packaged in glass bottles because essential oils are so potent. Many types of essential oils are sufficiently corrosive to break down plastic containers over time, making plastic an unpopular choice for bottling most types of essential oils. The glass bottle is inert and will not spoil when exposed to essential oils.

Essential oil bottles come in many different sizes, usually ranging from 1ml to 30ml. But the 10ml bottle is by far the most common size for packaging pure essential oils. A large 4-ounce bottle can be used for some types of essential oil products. These larger containers often hold diluted essential oil-infused products, such as room sprays or body sprays. 

Almost every essential oil bottle comes with a cap dispenser. The most common types are dropper inserts and dropper caps. Dropper inserts are a popular choice because they allow very precise control of oil usage. The dropper insert is a flat cap that makes it easy to dispense a single drop of oil. There are two main types of dropper inserts. Vertical droppers dispense a single drop of oil when inverted, while horizontal droppers dispense oil at the edges when tilted sideways. 

Glass pipette dropper tops are another popular dispensing system. These are dispensed by drawing the essential oil into a pipette by squeezing a small rubber ball on top of the cap. 

Dropper bottles are usually made of glass. They are usually amber, but can also be found in a range of other colors, such as matte black. Dark tinted glass helps protect contents from UV rays. 

While glass is the most common, tincture bottles can also be made from high-density polyethylene (HDPE), a tough resin that is highly impact-resistant. Others are made of polyethylene terephthalate (PET), a strong plastic that is also very impact-resistant.

Dropper bottles are flexible for a variety of applications. Their straw tops make them ideal for dispensing liquids in standardized quantities. Standardization is especially important when you're using them to package certain tinctures because customers want to know exactly how much product they've dispensed. 

Essential oils are also often found in dropper bottles. The strong smell of these oils requires a precise application. (While you might appreciate the faint lavender scent on your pillow at night, too much can be overwhelming!)

Dropper bottles are also ideal for beauty products. Face, skin, and eye serums are usually highly concentrated, and dropper bottles allow customers to take just the right amount. 

Dropper bottle sizes are 0.5 oz (15ml), 1 oz. (30ml) and 2 oz. (60ml). The size of the bottle will determine what size label you should use. 0.5 oz. (15ml) bottles can comfortably hold the following label sizes:

1.25” x 2.50” rectangle

1.50” x 3.00” rectangle
